If you or your loved one is a veteran, and requires the aid of another person in order to perform personal functions required in everyday living, you may qualify for Veterans Administration programs that reimburse veterans for home care services.
The Veteran’s Aid and Attendance Pension allows for veterans and surviving spouses who require the regular attendance of another person to assist in eating, dressing, undressing, bathing, medication dosing, or taking care of the needs of nature to receive additional monetary benefits. It also includes individuals who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity. The Aid and Attendance Pension benefits are NOT dependent on service-related injuries for compensation. The Veterans Administration Aid and Attendance Pension typically covers between $1,000 and $2,000 per month.
To qualify for the Aid and Attendance Pension benefits it needs to be established by your physician that you require daily assistance by others to dress, undress, bathe, cook, eat, take on or off a prosthetic, leave home, etc… You do NOT have to require assistance with all of these. There just needs to be sufficient medical evidence that you cannot function completely on your own.
