The Caregiver Quality Assurance® Program

Care Providers at Home uses the Caregiver Quality Assurance® (CQA) program, developed by the company Leading Home Care, to go above and beyond basic requirements when selecting quality care providers for senior homemaker companion services. By using CQA, we utilize the latest technology to provide peace of mind that the person caring for your loved one is honest, reliable, and understands the importance of their role as a caregiver. When looking for someone to provide homemaker companion services for your loved one, we understand that identifying companies that provide only quality caregivers can be a difficult challenge. To address that challenge, we use CQA to select only those caregivers with the knowledge and expertise to provide the highest level of care.

Minimum Standards are Not Enough in Senior Home Care

Today, many companies that provide caregivers do so with the bare minimum standards of screening and selection. Many companies execute criminal background checks, reference checks and certification checks. Unfortunately, these minimum standards may only screen out applicants who were “caught in the act” of wrongdoing. We’ve raised our standards by requiring all applicants to complete our CQA assessment screening process.

Caregiver Quality Assurance

The Caregiver Quality Assurance® program allows us to look more closely at the personality and behaviors of the caregiver we select. With the Caregiver Quality Assurance® program, we are using the most advanced screening tool available today in the pre-employment assessment of caregivers. This unique technology helps us identify individuals with the potential to put your loved one at risk. Our Caregiver Quality Assurance pre-employment assessment tool examines behaviors, attitudes, and personality characteristics to screen applicants out before an incident can occur.

  • Dependability — Measures the risk that an individual will be undependable, careless, or disorganized.
  • Honesty — Measures the risk for dishonest behavior.
  • Hostility — Measures the risk of a person being aggressive, hostile, or having poor control of their anger.
  • Substance Abuse — Measures the risk of substantial use of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Sexual Harassment — Measures behaviors regarding sexuality that are likely to be considered harassment.
  • Computer Misuse — Measures the risk of using computers and the Internet in ways unrelated to job tasks.
  • Cognitive Reasoning — Evaluates problem-solving abilities and learning speed.

Today, many home caregivers may only be evaluated on a minimum of clinical and/or social skills. We know, however, that most problems in people’s homes are because of inappropriate attitude and behavior among caregivers. Until now there was no way to evaluate attitude and behavior before problems arose. Additionally, the Caregiver Personality and Behavior Assessment measures six core traits to help determine if an applicant’s personality will fit a specific job. This also allows us to successfully match care providers with the appropriate client. When it comes to homemaker companion services you only want the best!

As you look for home care for you or a loved one in your area, ask your local home care company if they participate in the Caregiver Quality Assurance® program. If not, ask them what type of tools they use to evaluate attitudes, behaviors and personality traits of their applicants. If they rely on “good instincts” they aren’t using the technology you need and should expect.

Care Provider Background Screening

In addition to utilizing the most advanced screening tool available today in the pre-employment assessment of caregivers, and per Chapter 435 of the 2012 Florida Statutes, Care Providers at Home also conducts level 2 security background investigations on all of its care providers as a condition of their employment and continued employment which includes, but is not limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal history records checks through the Department of Law Enforcement, and national criminal history records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies. Any potential caregiver unable to successfully pass this screening is not considered for employment.

Care Provider Training

Once brought onboard following our thorough assessment, screening and interviewing process, our care providers’ training begins. Training starts with a complete report to the care provider on the results of the in-home consultation, the client’s condition, needs, and expectations. Pre-assignment training continues as the best approach to satisfying the client’s needs is explored. Over the course of the assignment, our ongoing training program enables our caregivers to deliver superior home care while enhancing their job performance and ultimately creating an exceptional customer experience for our clients.

All of our caregivers have the opportunity to participate in our continual learning program. Those in the program are required to complete training modules on a variety of topics including:

  • Understanding and Minimizing Fall Risk Factors
  • Food Preparation and Safety
  • Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia
  • Safe Driving
  • In-Home Infection Control Measures
